NUR 1017 - Foundations of Nursing Practice Credit(s): 7 Clock Hour(s): 60 classroom, 135 clinical (Fall, Spring) Contact hours: 60 hrs. classroom, 135 hrs. clinical. This course introduces the fundamentals of nursing practice including the role of the professional nurse, communication, and safe patient-centered care. Students will build an understanding of the concepts foundational to the role of the professional nurse with an emphasis on assessment of healthy patients and at-risk patients across the lifespan. Knowledge of growth and development will be used to develop a plan of prevention for at-risk patients. Skills are taught in the clinical lab and then applied in the patient care settings. Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for safe patient-centered care. Prerequisite(s): BIO 2204 , BIO 3304 , BIO 2213
