This course focuses on the relationship of patient safety and quality in the health care profession. The goal is to introduce fundamentals of patient safety, evaluation of quality, quality measures, and concepts of quality improvement. The student is introduced to the rationale for performance management and the role of the governing body of the healthcare organization in ensuring compliance with the standards of regulatory and accreditation organizations. Improving the quality, safety, and value of health care involves a multi-disciplinary approach and diverse knowledge.
